Whites Trade Directory of 1883 finds William Christopher Greatorex as the Publican of the Sheldon Hotel at 27 and 29 Hill Street, Sheffield. Story confirmed by present day family member.
Emigrated to the USA sometime in the mid 1880's. William C Greatorex noted in Philadelphia City Directories of 1887 and 1888 described as Carpenter of 1048 Frankford Avenue and 159 Church Street. Family returned to England in time to be registered for the 1891 UK Census.
1901 UK Census RG 13/4362 folio 67 page 3 lists as follows at House 1 Ct 4 possibly 50 Fitzwilliam Street, Sheffield.

William Greatorex, born June 30th 1887 at 1048 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, USA. Copy of Philadelphia Birth Certificate from Dept of Records held. Died in infancy per family legend. The family returned to Sheffield, England by April 1891 as they were included in the UK 1891 Census. No mention of this William but a younger William is noted aged 1. NB: Philadelphia Dept of Records Birth notice has the family name spelt as GREATWICKS however other details correct including mothers maiden name.

Frederick Ernest Greatorex, born June 30th 1887 also in Philadelphia, USA. Died Febuary 5th 1954 in Sheffield. No record of birth found. Possibly born at 1048 Frankford Avenue or 159 Church Street, Philadelphia. On the 1891 UK Census noted as born in the USA but now a British Citizen. Per the 1891 UK Census the family was resident at 43 Chester Street, Sheffield. Frederick E Greatorex was my Grandfather. Date of births indicate that Frederick and William were twins. English Census records of 1891 and 1901 confirm that Frederick was born in 1887 with ages recorded as 3 and 13 which with the Census taken in approximately April of those years and a birthday the following June appears to confirm year of birth as 1887.
